Even after years of being a beauty addict and enabler, I still manage to learn and discover new things about my skin. And that’s what keeps me inspired to blog!
For years I thought I had dry skin but after speaking with a few beauty specialists and dermatologists, turns out the issue wasn’t my skin type but the condition of it. The heat in Dubai, non-stop air conditioning and not drinking enough liquids had left my skin dehydrated and masking my actual skin type: oily! I was especially surprised to learn this since I rarely break out. So if you haven’t already, make sure you speak to a specialist about your skin instead of self-assessing.
After learning about my skin, I decided to overhaul my skincare and went looking for hydrating moisturizers that wouldn’t clog my oily pores, yet helped add moisture back in. With some trial and error, I’ve discovered gel-based moisturizers work best for me. Unlike older formulas, the new gel formulas don’t leave a sticky layer or a synthetic feeling. Plus your skin immediately looks plumper and fresher.
So if you’re suffering from dehydrated skin that needs an extra dose of moisture, these are my recommendations:
The basic option – Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Crème
Bioderma is an amazing brand with some great products and decent prices. The Hydrabio line has some great products but the gel-crème is one of my favorites. this is a super light-weight moisturizer that turns tacky upon application. This one is great as a makeup base as it lets your foundation stick without th need of using an additional primer.
The luxury option – Biotherm Aquasource Gel
Biotherm isn’t one of those brands that gets a lot of PR but all the products I’ve tried over the years, I’ve loved. Out of the three options I’ve tried, this one is my favorite as it works on its own as a moitruzer or as a makeup base. The other good news is the Aquasource line has different variations for your skin type including one with SPF.
The Sephora option – Belief The True Cream Aqua Bomb
This is the first product I tried and has been one of Sephora’s bestsellers of 2015. And it’s not surprising since Belif is a Korean brand and they know skincare best. This is probably the richest one out of all these three and I wakeup in the morning feeling as if I’ve just moisturized. If you’re in the US, this is the one I’d start with.
