If there is one thing that I love about Dubai in recent years, it’s the rapid expansion of the food scene. Dubai is home to some great international restaurants (think Nobu or Zuma) as well as smaller, but just as good hole-in-the-wall joints. Last year Dubai got it’s very own Restaurant Week thanks to the folks at Jumeirah!

For those uninitiated to Restaurant Week, it’s is a popular concept in cities like LA and NYC. Throughout this week, selected restaurants setup a prix fixe (fixed price) menus for lunch and dinner. It allows diners to try out expensive, never-visited restaurants at a reasonable prices. Restaurants can take this as an opportunity to showcase house favorites and win over more regulars for the next year. Continue reading →

The old Ekta would have jumped and said YES immediately to that question. The new Ekta A.A. (After Allergies) had to stop and think. After all, how can you avoid gluten/wheat while dining at an Italian restaurant?

Nevertheless, after some convincing by the wonderful Jo at DPQ, I set off to Nais Italian Kitchen in JLT. As insurance, I decided to take along some less picky eaters – Ali and Zaid (from the Roundmenu) team – to give me a better understanding of the food.

Nais is tucked away in Cluster F of the HDS tower in Jumeirah Lake Towers. When I arrived at 1 pm, it was already packed with lunchgoers who worked in the nearby offices. Thankfully, owner Marianna had set aside a table for us. We decided to let the expert choose our menu. Continue reading →

Cyber Monday – Issue 11 – Yummly

I often wonder what I love more: shopping or food. I tend to plan my weekends and even holidays on the quest for that perfect meal. Case in point my last visit to San Francisco where I had made a list of restaurants to test out 4 months prior to my trip!

Unfortunately, a few months ago, my world came crashing down around me when I was diagnosed with allergies towards gluten, eggs, cow’s milk and coconut.  After pouting for a few weeks, I set off to get my foodie life in check by doing what I do best – research via Google.
