Cyber Monday – Issue 7 – My Fitness Pal

The summer is season is officially on! Apart from the hot weather which means more skirts and shorts, summer is officially wedding season meaning a lot more pressure to look and be in shape.

I’m heading off this summer for bridesmaid duty and realized I needed to get as fit as possible in the days I have left pre-holiday. Enter My Fitness Pal!

I first started using My Fitness Pal as an iPhone app a few years back. And since then, whenever I need extra motivation to lose weight, I log back in.

My Fitness Pal is essentially a calorie counter. I like it much better than alternatives since its food database has almost everything you could possibly eat (including homemade Indian food)! Furthermore, it also calculates calories burned via exercising.

The app also has a social feature where you can see and encourage your other friends who are trying to be fit as well. Perhaps my favorite feature is that apart from being an iOS/Android/Blackberry/Windows app, you can log in directly to the website. This makes it easier to make sure you fill in your diary each day!

In case you are looking for some extra motivation or just a digital fitness/food diary, My Fitness Pal is worth checking out!

Download the My Fitness app from the iTunes store now or log in directly on the website.

So how many times have you used an iPhone app only to be rewarded with a 3-course dinner at a signature restaurant of a 3 Michelin starred chef? Well that is precisely what I got to do this weekend thanks to the Evian Live You Snap & Dine app.

The app is quite simple – all you need to do is snap a picture of the Evian logo (the geek in me loves how it automatically locks onto a logo) and you’ll be instantly find out if you’ve won a dinner at an exclusive restuarant – in this case a dinner at STAY.

STAY stands for “Simple Table Alléno Yannick” and is contemporary French dinner-only restaurant tucked away at the One&Only on the Palm Jumeirah. I was expecting a busy, over-formal interior but was pleasantly surprised by the spacious and tastefully decorated interiors.

Cyber Monday – Issue 5 – Period Tracker

I’ve been an iPhone user for just under 3 years now and in this time span, I’ve managed to develop loyalty to a hand full of apps.  One such app is the Period Tracker app.

Let’s face it – us girlies these days have enough to think about and can’t keep track of everything. After years of struggling to keep an accurate record of my cycles (which all gynecologists recommend you do), this app finally gave me a convenient and inconspicuous way of keeping track.

Listed as “P Tracker” on your iPhone, it isn’t immediately obvious what this app does. However once you open it up, it has an immediate countdown to your next cycle, a calendar log of your full monthly ovulation cycle as well as a log of all previous cycles. You can even add in symptoms to your log.

What’s the best thing? The free version is more than enough for all my needs and I can even keep backups just in case I misplace my phone. No more lectures from the gynecologist thanks to this!

Download the Period Tracker app from the iTunes store now: Lite (Free) and Deluxe (USD 1.99).

P.S. I would really appreciate if the men in my life didn’t plan ahead for future cycles from these screenshots icon smile Cyber Monday Period Tracker

Cyber Monday – Issue 3 – Instant Stylist

Ever wonder how someone gets the label of being stylish? Either you have friends who shower you with false (sometimes true) praises, a fanciful photographer, or just a stroke of inspiration in the morning.

Well now you can determine exactly how stylish you are with InStyle’s Instant Stylist.  This app asks you to complete a look with the right accessory.  The challenge seems easy but it did trip me up several times.  While I firmly believe style is a very subjective thing, I like this application because it allows you to see outfits in a viewpoint different from yours.  And it definitely gave me some ideas of some statement pieces missing from my wardrobe.

Definitely worth checking out if you want to up your style factor or see how well you score!
