It’s the last day of April which means summer is officially here, which includes the summer blockbuster movie season. And the first mega movie of the year is Avengers: Age of Ultron. Thanks to the folks at Subway Arabia, I got a chance to attend the Middle East premiere at Vox Cinemas.
Avengers: Age of Ultron brings back the “core” Avengers including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans) along with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). We also see new entrants via Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany) and support from War Machine (Don Cheadle), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Of course with a big team of Avengers, there has to be a baddie and this time it’s led by Ultron (James Spader).
The first Avengers movie is a favorite primarily for the camaraderie between the core Avengers. We see snippets of that in this film with the bromance between Iron Man and The Hulk, “my girlfriend is better than yours banter” between Iron Man and Thor and Thor’s hidden insecurities. However, since the cast is considerably expanded, we see less of them with Black Widow and Hawkeye commanding a bigger portion of the storyline here. That being said, the action sequences don’t disappoint and Joss Whedon does a brilliant job visually. And if you’re like me and interested in the future implications of artificial intelligence, you’ll enjoy the plot of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
So if you haven’t already, make Avengers: Age of Ultron a part of your weekend plans. But don’t forget to head to Subway for a pre-movie snack considering the movie clocks in at almost 2.5 hours!
