As the race to the Oscars builds up, the awards season continues. Another important night is the Critics’ Choice Awards that were held this week. While not as glamorous an event as the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards often foreshadow the winners at the Oscars.
While the number of celebrities spotted on the red carpet was fewer than the Golden Globes, this year’s nominated ladies were present again – with Lupita Nyong’o donning Calvin Klein again and Sandra Bullock in Lanvin. Both looked absolutely stunning. Julie Delphy (of Before Midnight) fame was a gorgeous surprise in a royal blue, brocade midi dress pulled together with a gold belt.
A popular trend on the red carpet were dresses with higher necklines, which is refreshing, especially for those who prefer conservative styles. My favorites of the night were Amy Adams’ Roland Mouret and Cate Blanchett’s Lanvin, and while it was a tough call, I have to give Best Dressed to Amy Adams belted, fuchsia creation. Unfortunately Julia Roberts disappointed again in a simplistic dress that could easily be found on high street.
Also popular were lace and floral prints on the red carpet. I absolutely loved Margot Robbie’s Elie Saab pantsuit, which is a nice departure from a dress and one I can see myself wearing. Margot Robbie is definitely one to watch on the red carpet for her perfect style choices. Abigail Breslin wore a pale blue Bagley Mischka creation, which unfortunately ages her by two decades. Considering she’s only 17, she should have picked something more age-appropriate and flattering.
And since I love a bit of man candy on Dollz in Dubai, here’s a peek at the stylish men. While James Marsden over did it with the plaid, Matthew McConaughey shined in his silver tux while Ian Somerhalder and Bradley Cooper shined in classic black and grey respectively.
This was unfortunatley a fairly underwhelming red carpet but don’t worry, many more awards nights are coming up, including a few from Bollywood. In the meanwhile, tell us who scored the best at the Critics Choice Awards red carpet for you?
