If there is one Indian filmmaker who’s movies can be considered cinematic events it is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Whether it was Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas or Black, each of his films have been lauded. However for me, his forte always remains romantic love stories with massive sets and it is no surprise that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is one of my favorite movies. And that’s why Bhansali’s latest Ram-Leela is one I’m excited to see.
The film starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is said to be an adaptation of Romeo-Juliet set against a violent backdrop in Gujarat. The trailer itself gives us a preview that this isn’t your ordinary love story and the chemistry between Ranveer-Deepika is off the charts, with rumors that the lead pair fell in love during the making of this movie. The last time this happened we had the crackling chemistry between Salman and Aishwarya in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Deepika’s acting skills have been improving with each film and Ranveer is a personal favorite of mine, especially after watching Lootera.
And if you’ve been complaining (like me) that Bollywood music has been suffering these days, have a listen to the Ram-Leela soundtrack which is an absolute original and a delight to listen. The film also features an item number by Priyanka Chopra but my favorite track has to be the “Ishqyaun Dhisqyaun” song, which is unlike any “romantic” Bollywood song I’ve heard before..
Ram-Leela is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, distributed by Eros Entertainment and stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. It releases worldwide on November 15, 2013 (November 14 in the UAE).
