Spotlight: Banana Republic Milly Collection

In order to be considered a true shopaholic in my books, I have a very simple question:

What’s the earliest you’ve been at the mall to start shopping?

My answer is 6 am. Five years ago, when I was living in LA, I spent the night at a friend’s house post-Thanksgiving dinner with one objective – to be at the mall the next morning at the crack of dawn for some Black Friday shopping. By 9 am, we had made it back home after a fruitful morning of credit-card abusing.

Flash-forward to a few Thursdays ago and I had parked in Dubai Mall a few minutes before 8 AM for a special event – the VIP preview of the Banana Republic Milly collection. For the uninitiated, Milly is a fashion label run by designer Michelle Smith who’s collections can be found on Net-a-Porter and Neiman Marcus.  This collaboration is a special summer collection inspired by the Hamptons (think the summer destinations preferred by the rich and elite of Manhattan à la Revenge or Gossip Girl).

The collection is the perfect blend of playful from Milly, thanks to the abstract prints and pops of neon, while formal enough to be worked into your office wardrobe thanks to the classic Banana Republic cuts and silhouettes. Additionally, the straw clutches and chunky necklaces are great to incorporate with neutral outfits for the summer.

My picks for the collection are the printed shirt (I already have the green, tempted to pick up the navy as well!), navy blue jersey dress and the neon green necklace. And there are plenty of colorful picks for the men as well – I love the turquoise or printed shorts.

And my advice to any stores looking to increase sales – just organize an early morning store opening – my credit card seems awfully cooperative at that time!

Shop the Banana Republic Milly collection at Banana Republic stores across the GCC or visit their Facebook page for more information. And in case you didn’t have a chance to check out the Mad Men collection, they still have a few pieces left!

And thank you to Al Tayer and Banana Republic PR for inviting me for the VIP preview and the gorgeous set of Banana Republic Milly summer polishes to indulge the polish addict in me!
