Blogger Love & Avoiding Makeup Mistakes

Yes, I’m finally back from an extended hiatus. While some may think blogging is really easy, it is a creative outlet for me and sometimes I just can’t find the right words to express myself. In those times, I go on a break until I feel I have my blogging mojo back. And I think I finally have it back again!

For any aspiring blogger, the one piece of advice I would give is to get out there and read what other bloggers are churning out. Even when I’m not writing, I’m always reading since there are so many talented bloggers out there who inspire me to do better. So today I’m going to share one such blogger who recently impressed me – notable YouTube v-blogger, Sharon Farrell. I’ve been browsing her blog and she has some great makeup tutorials and advice but my favorite one so far has to be her roundup of makeup pet peeves!

While the simple thing would be to say never do these things, I think we’ve all inadvertently mad these mistakes. So I’ve compiled a list of tricks in case you end up making these mistakes.

  • Foundation darker than your skin
Dollz Tip: Keep 2 foundations at all times, a lighter and darker one to custom blend your foundation based on your tan.
  • Cakey powder
Dollz Tip: Finish your look by taking a clean brush and buffing off excess powder. You can also add some dewiness by spraying lightly with Mac Fix+ or another setting spray.
  • Too much contour
Dollz Tip: After countouring, use a stippling brush on top to blend contour line into foundation.
  • Glittery cheek highlighter
Dollz Tip: Use a liquid highligter like Benefit High Beam or Nars Orgasm Illuminator and blend into your blush with a slightly damp brush.
  • Drawn on sharpie eyebrows that are too long
Dollz Tip: Stay away from the pencils and creams; instead use an eyeshadow to fill in your brows.
  • Unblended eyeshadow till the brows
Dollz Tip: Apply shadow till your crease and then using a Q-tip, clean up anything from your crease to your brow. Blend the edges using a nude shade.
  • Gap between liner and lash line
    Dollz Tip: Try tightlining.
  • Droopy eyeliner:
Dollz Tip: use that trusted Q-Tip and clean up anything that extends past the corner of your eye.
  • Not blending eyeliner on the lower lash line
Dollz Tip: Blend a little eyeshadow on top of your eyeliner; use a shade lighter or a smokey brown.
  • Clumpy mascara and mascara dots on the eyelid
Dollz Tip: Wipe off your wand before applying your mascara and clean up any spots with a Q-Tip
  • Overdrawn lip liner
Dollz Tip: Think that the furthest you can line your lips is like tracing your lips. Nothing further!
  • Nude concealer lips
Dollz Tip: Just don’t. Only IF you’re applying a lipstick, use a bit of foundation to “erase” your lips. Never do this if you’re sticking to a gloss.
  • Bright pink unblended blush
Dollz Tip: Blend with a fluffy bronzer brush and blend again with a stipling brush.
  • Gloopy Liplgloss
Dollz Tip: Less is more so apply the least amount possible and toss out any old lipglosses.

Everyone makes mistakes with makeup – it’s all about perfecting the art! What are your big makeup petpeeves?
