Our skin and scalp shed every 28 days, which means there is always dead cells and oils being secreted onto our scalp. With the addition of serums, oils, styling products and dry shampoos into our daily routine, sometimes shampoo just doesn’t cut it.
So if you notice your hair doesn’t have that squeaky clean feeling or is getting greasy too quickly, it’s probably time to give your hair a clean break with a good dose of a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoo will essentially strip your scalp clean of all the buildup and allow it to breathe. That being said, use of a clarifying shampoo should be limited to once or twice a month to avoid all the natural moisture and oils being stripped away.
Now the question is what’s a good clarifying shampoo? There are surprisingly few choices in the market for this so I was happy to discover one that was on my bathroom shelf already – Philosophy’s 3-in-1 Shampoo, Shower Gel and Bubble Bath!
While I’ve been a fan of the Philosophy shower gel for a long time, I only thought of testing it out as a clarifying shampoo when I ran out of my regular shampoo. Even with my hair covered in a pre-wash oil treatment, just one wash with this left my hair clean and shiny without the excessive dryness. And what’s not to love with scents like Coconut Frosting and Vanilla Birthday Cake!
