Red Carpet Coverage: People’s Choice Awards 2013

It’s been some time since the People’s Choice Awards took place, but I figured it’s never too late to stop and fawn over some gorgeous dresses and criticize the ugly ones.

The People’s Choice Awards are meant to be hipper than the typical red carpets like the Critics’ Choice Awards, so it’s nice to see some celebrities take risks. However, we’ll always have a good share of the boring black dresses as well, so let’s start with the long ones. Unfortunately, none of the looks struck a chord with me and even the normally stunning Heidi Klum looks rather dull.

On the shorter side there were even more monstrosities. Winners Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock got my vote for worst dressed and most disappointing respectively. Sandra Bullock could’ve done better if that skirt had been hemmed a little higher. That being said, I loved Katy Perry’s Valentino creation which is an elegant departure from her usual style.

Where there is black, white can’t remain far behind. It seems like simple silhouettes were of choice with Morena Baccarin of Homeland fame taking a risk with a Donna Karan Atelier pant suit that I happened to like.

There were some lovely pastel cocktail dresses and I loved Kaley Cuoco’s baby pink Christian Siriano dress. This is definitely one I’d like to have in my closet.

I love women who take a risk and go for some color. All three ladies, Rachel Leigh Cook, Lea Michele, and Chloe Moretz did well in their selections but I absolutely love Chloe’s fluorescent yellow mini-dress – fun and very age appropriate!

This being the People’s Choice Awards, there was some trendy prints. I never thought of Paris Hilton’s dress sense in the positive way but she pleasantly surprised me with her Mary Katrantzou outfit paired with bright blue pumps.

With fairly basic hairstyles, Kaley’s half updo caught my eye thanks to her delicate hair accessory. I also loved her updated french manicure with gold tips. Best makeup has to be Taylor Swift, who showed off her blue eyes with a strong brown smokey eye and finished the look with turquoise earrings.

As always, we end with the handsome men. Robert Downey Jr. went off the beaten path with a grey suit and I pick him as Best Dressed Man for having some fun with his look and those shoes especially.
