The term Cyber Monday was coined to mark the Monday after Black Friday that companies used to encourage people to shop online. Our Cyber Monday column here will highlight spectacular online finds, blogs we love or just our general love for all things digital. If you have a recommendation for Cyber Monday, let us know!
Cyber Monday – Issue 11 – Yummly
I often wonder what I love more: shopping or food. I tend to plan my weekends and even holidays on the quest for that perfect meal. Case in point my last visit to San Francisco where I had made a list of restaurants to test out 4 months prior to my trip!
Unfortunately, a few months ago, my world came crashing down around me when I was diagnosed with allergies towards gluten, eggs, cow’s milk and coconut. After pouting for a few weeks, I set off to get my foodie life in check by doing what I do best – research via Google. It was during this phase I came across the recipe site – Yummly.
Yummly isn’t just a regular recipe site – it is possibly the most technologically advanced recipe site I have come across thanks to a number of features. You can search for recipes by ingredients, nutritional content, flavors and most useful for me – allergies!
For example, a search for “chocolate cake” results in recipes for flourless cakes thanks to my gluten and wheat allergies.
Yummly is also a recipe aggregator That means it’ll direct you to Allrecipes.com or the Food Network for the actual recipe. One of my favorite features is the serving calculator. When I first test out a recipe, I like doing it on a very small scale – 1 or 2 servings max – and the built-in calculator does all the math for me!
So in case you are unlucky like me with food allergies or just need some kitchen inspiration, head over to Yummly.com. Even if you aren’t motivated to head to the kitchen, there are plenty of food photos to salivate over.
