Review: February GlamBox Unboxed

It’s amazing how quickly a month goes by.  Today, after a long morning of back-to-back meetings, I came back to find another GlamBox on my desk: February AKA the Valentine’s Day edition!

This box was pretty much the same as the inaugural January box, a well-packaged external pink box holding a gold colored box with the samples inside. Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I was hoping this box would come with a bright red lipstick or a sultry eyeliner for date night makeup.

The February GlamBox included 5 samples plus a bonus:

  • Red Door fragrance by Elizabeth Arden
5 mL travel sample; 100 mL full-sized item retails for AED 270
  • Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation SPF20  in 04 + Face Powder Brush by Elizabeth Arden
Travel sample + travel brush; full-sized items retail for AED 170 and AED 115 respectively
  • Clarifying Treatment Face Mask by Karuna
    1 mask (28 mL)
  • Cucumber & Blue Orchid Hand & Body Crème by Philip B
60 mL deluxe sample; full-sized item retails for AED 170
  • Patchouli & Musk Candle by La Vela
Mini candle; full-sized item retails for AED 150
  • Bonus: Cupcake voucher by Sweet Stuff
6 mini cupcakes + 20% off on next order

I must admit I was a little underwhelmed by this box. For a beauty box, there wasn’t enough “beauty” in there. I would have liked to see an element of color, i.e. shadow, blush or eyeliner sample.  Also, both the January and February boxes contained multiple samples of Elizabeth Arden. While Elizabeth Arden is a top-class brand, it is a bit of a “mummy” brand and is more famous for its fragrances.  I’m hoping the future boxes bring some more popular brands like Make Up For Ever, Urban Decay, or Chanel, or even some lesser known brands such Milani, LCN or OCC.

Nevertheless, I’m still looking forward to the March box and having a whole range of samples to test out. You can signup for your GlamBox subscription from GlamBox.me.

On a related note, I can’t bear to throw out the gorgeous GlamBox boxes. Any recommendations of how I should creatively re-use them?
