I’m going to make a sweeping declaration and say that in 10 years, Bollywood won’t exist. And no, not because movies like Ra.One will dig its grave but because the divide between Hollywood and Bollywood will cease to exist with collaborations happening constantly.
Proof of this is increasing numbers of Bollywood actors being featured in Hollywood, i.e. Anil Kapoor in 24 and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Frieda Pinto becoming the blue-eyed girl of fashion and media, and Amitabh Bachchan playing a role in The film depiction of The Great Gatsby. And of course, with the economy in India continuously growing, Hollywood will look eastwards, as demonstrated by Lady Gaga:[blackbirdpie url=”http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/130910728692563969″]
Bollywood has often been derided for plagiarising movies from the West but things are slowly changing with rights to movies being purchsed. The latest example of this is the Indian remake of the 2003 heist film, The Italian Job, reincarnated as Players – Go For Gold.
The film is produced by India’s action thriller experts Abbas-Mustan, whose previous hits include Race, Aitraaz and Baazigar. Players stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Sonam Kapoor.
The trailer looks quite promising and it’ll be interesting to see if they do the original film justice in this remake. And it’ll be good to see the Mini Cooper car chase recreated on the big screen.
