Tuesday Tip – Issue 15 – Back to Baby

Every few weeks, I head over to the supermarket. Except instead of trolling the food or beauty isles, I’m in the baby section. Why? It seems like when the folks were developing products for keeping babies clean and healthy, they managed to create a range of products perfect for our beauty needs.

Baby Shampoo

Since it’s a mild cleanser, it’s a great facial cleanser for those with sensitive skin or for cleaning up your makeup brushes. It’s also the best way to wash your hair post a ritual of DIY hair treatments.

Baby Oil

This is my go-to moisturizer anytime I’m wearing a short dress or skirt. While moisturizer is great, it doesn’t provide the hint of shine that baby oil does. It also makes a great eye makeup remover providing a great alternate to MAC’s cleanse-off oil while travelling.

Baby Wipes

I often see women at the gym cleaning off their faces with Nivea or L’oréal makeup wipes. I used to be a fan of them, but at 20-30 Dhs for a pack of 20 wipes, they can get expensive. They also would dry out quickly and need to be tossed out. I now swear by baby wipes – they smell fantastic, feel great on the skin and are a bargain at a quarter of the price.

Baby Powder

While my favorite dry shampoo is from Boots, baby powder makes an excellent substitute. It’s also a savior in case you drop an oily food on your clothes. Just sprinkle powder to absorb the oil, and then wash as usual!

So what baby products do you use? Or are there any special multitaskers in your bathroom?

Tuesday Tip – Issue 14 – Men and their Hair Gel

Maybe it’s because we’ve been watching Jersey Shore all week but we felt this week’s Tuesday Tip needed to be devoted towards men and their hair gel.

The right hair can make or break a look and unfortunately, the number one crime against hair we see is the excess use of hair gel.  So this week we decided to get in touch with a guy who always manages to keep his hair looking good, Matt Glassman.

Matty 3 tips for Dollz in Dubai readers are:

  • hair should glisten, but not be reflective;
  • if you accidentally put too much hair gel, use a towel to soak off the excess; and
  • in order to avoid bedhead, when showering in the evening, work in a little gel before you sleep.

There you go guys, no excuses for bad hair days!

Workwear from Bebe

Ask any woman from the coroporate world and she will agree that finding the perfect outfit for work can be stressful.  How do you look fashionable and respectable without looking too frumpy or matronly? And in this region we need to be mindful of the culture and ensure outfits are conservative and not overly sexy.

Express, Marks & Spencers, and New York & Company are some of my favorite brands for filling my workwear closet.  We even covered this twist on the button-down shirt on the blog sometime back. Thankfully, as women in the corporate world become more prevalent, more brands are devoting time for special workwear collections.

Bebe, until now well-known for its feminine, sexy clothing, is launching a special workwear collection. While some of the pieces might be a little too risqué for this cultural environment, I think there are pointers that can be incorporated into our outfits.

  • Match the hues of your blacks to give a sharp, sleek look.
  • Add some style to your outfits with chunky, metal accessories.
  • Add a blazer or tights to a structured dress to tone it down.
  • Mix and match leather with tweed and prints with neutrals.
