Minx Ramadan Collection

I came across this interesting piece of news from Glamour.com about a Ramadan-themed Minx collection!

For those of you not from the Middle East, Ramadan is the holy month where Muslims abstain from drinking and eating during the hours between sunrise and sunset.  This month is intended to teach Muslims about spirituality and charity and the end of the month is marked by the celebratory week of Eid.

Minx on the other hand are foil-like manicures that are done exclusively in salons. They come in a variety of finishes but they are most known for the metallic finishes made famous by Beyonce.

It’s rather interesting that a California-based company like Minx has come out with a religious-themed collection. I don’t know how Ramadan manicures fit with Islamic ideals but I’m sure the popularity of Minx nail art in the region has something do with this.

So what do you think? Is this filling a niche or an unnecessary gimmick?

Katy Perry’s Purr

I’m a big, Big, BIG Katy Perry fan. My mornings seem incomplete without blasting “Teenage Dream” or “E.T.” these days. And if her music isn’t enough, I absolutely adore her OTT pin-up girl style. While it isn’t my personal style, I admire her confidence that allows her to work any outfit she is wearing.

Now the queen of glam has released her first scent,  a fruity, floral-scented Purr. I’ll be honest, I haven’t managed to check out the scent yet, but with a bottle as gorgeous as this, is there any reason not to buy it?

Miami Swim Week

A few weeks back, the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim was held in South Beach, Miami.  This is the biggest event for swimwear in the United States and brings a host of designers and buyers from around the world.

Popular trends included the retro, asymmetric, and cutout styles.  Here we bring to you glimpses of our favorite pieces that will hopefully inspire you while shopping for your summer swimwear.

P.S. These photos are also great inspiration to hit the gym!

Loving her Look: Sofia Vergara

It’s hard not to love Sofia Vergara. She’s goregous, always smiling and hilariously entertaining in Modern Family. While her style is always impeccable, her look at The Smurfs Movie premiere caught my attention.

Sofia is wearing a gorgeous purple Missoni dress and I love how she accessorized it with equally bright turquoise Lorraine Schwartz earrings.  While theoretically it would seem that they would compete against each other, Sofia manages to work them. I actually love this color combination and can’t wait to try this out. Bonus points for working in the Indian-style bangles – I used to do that in high school!

So what do you think?

Tuesday Tip – Issue 10 – Manic Mani/Pedi

Apologies for missing out on last week’s Tuesday Tip. I got too caught up in birthday celebrations to leave aside time for blogging, but it did give me an inspiration for this week’s Tuesday Tip!

Considering that I left work early on Thursday and had plenty of time to get ready, 5 minutes before I had to leave the house for my party I realized that I had forgotten to give myself a manicure and pedicure. And how could I let myself leave the house with non-glam hands and toes?

Learning from past mistakes I knew that painting my nails before going out was a bad idea, so I decided to play off my natural nails.  I filed and buffed out any anomalies and then grabbed my Body Shop cuticle oil pen to add some shine.  Thanks to adding Omegas 3,6,9 supplements to my diet, my natural nails are strong and white, and the cuticle oil made my hands look like they had a French manicure.

The feet were another story.  Thanks to intense gym workouts and dark polishes, my toe nails were too shy to go bare.  Instead of hunkering down to paint all 10 toes, I first put on my heels to figure out which nails would be exposed; turned out it was only the first three.  I also skipped the normal dark red crème and opted for a funky glittery nailpolish.  The great thing about glitters is that it makes it much harder to notice a rushed polish job, so I always keep a bottle of silver glitter (try RBL’s Frugalista) and gold glitter (try Deborah Lippmann’s Superstar) polish for when I’m in a rush.

So next time you are running late, go glam but with a shortcut!
