Tuesday Tip – Issue 7 – Date Night Fashion for Men

This Tuesday Tip is a little special since it caters to those who make my world go round, the gorgeous men out there!

Being a tomboy for 18 years, followed by engineering college, meant that I’ve always managed to have a lot of male friends.  And that brought its share of trips to Express and J.Crew as a personal shopping assistant (you are welcome Mr. CR).

I know it is hard for men to be adventurous in their dress sense, but taking small risks can make you standout and hopefully pay off with the ladies you are around.  As much as I love the button-down shirts from Express, it admittedly gets boring.  So this week I want you to channel Chris Evans a.k.a. Captain America’s style.

I absolutely love this combo! The casual T-shirt ensures that the blazer look doesn’t look too formal and you can’t go wrong with dark jeans.  Most of you shy away from V-necked shirts, but if you are lucky enough to have a low chest-hair count, us ladies don’t mind a little man cleavage! Otherwise pair with a bright-colored, round-necked tee.

P.S. All you guys are encouraged to send me pictures of your Date Night outfits. We love some eye candy at Dollz in Dubai!

Loving her Look: Evan Rachel Wood

It’s really easy to love glamorous gowns on the red carpet (see Rosie Huntington-Whitely over here and here), but every so often you see a star take a risk and have it payoff.  I know some people might call me crazy but I absolutely LOVE this look on Evan Rachel Wood for the premiere of season four of True Blood.

She’s rocking a Dolce & Gabanna grey vest combo accessorised with bright red suspenders and pointy Jimmy Choos.  I love the masculinity of this look, but a peak at the back reveals a feminine leopard-print panel. Even her makeup is very feminine with the red lipstick, while the pixie cut adds a boyish charm.  Overall, I love this androgynous look compared to her previous red-carpet appearance.

So what do you think? Am I cray-cray for loving Ms. Wood’s transformation or is she totally rocking the red-carpet with her styling and confidence? Hit up the comments!

Tarte for True Blood

I’m a big fan of vampire-themed shows.  While my personal favorite is The Vampire Diaries, the show that resurrected the vampire genre on US television has to be True Blood.  The racy and raunchy TV show has a lot of fans out there and it isn’t surprising that the beauty industry found a unique way to promote the premiere of Season 4, set to debut June 26, 2011.

Tarte Cosmetics and Sephora are collaborating to produce three special, True Blood-themed beauty products: a cheek stain, lip stain and a palette.  Tarte lip and cheek stains are highly-rated and I’m expecting these limited edition products to be a hit and sold-out in record time.

So far no word on if this collection will be available in Dubai and it seems highly unlikely since Tarte products are generally not available here.  But if you happen to be in a Sephora in the US soon, check out the new collection.  And we at Dollz in Dubai wouldn’t say no to special gifts of the Tarte for True Blood Lip and Cheek stains!

Tuesday Tip – Wake Me Up

Tuesday Tip – Issue 6 – Wake Me Up

It’s been a jam-packed few weeks so I apologize for the limited posting.  I don’t function very well on limited amounts of sleep.  Thankfully, I can turn to my makeup stash to make me look a little more rested than I actually am.

The trick to makeup when you are tired is to go with the less is more and avoid piling on the foundation.  To look more awake, you need to emphasize the brightness and try to fake a glow in your complexion.  My knight in shining armor is Benefit’s High Beam. High Beam is a pink liquid highlighter that can be used all over your face.  To acheive the bright-eyed look, dab some High Beam in the inner corners of your eyes and blend.  You can also dab some onto your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.  In case you have more yellow tones, go for the golden version of this, Moon Beam.

And I leave you with the only song that could force me out of bed as a child.  Gotta love the 80s!

WTForever 21

It seems like everyone is a blogger these days.  There are weird blogs, boring blogs, funny blogs, entertaining blogs and then those WTF? blogs as well.  One of those blogs that goes in the entertaining/WTF categories is WTForever21.com.

If you are a female between the ages of 15-30, chances are you have at least one piece of clothing from Forever 21.  They have a wide range of clothing and it’s easy to come back with one new item (or more likely 5-6 new items) from every store visit.  But along with the cutesy outfits, you often come across these horrendous items which make you wonder who in their sane mind would actually buy that.

WTForever21.com documents those crazy outfits and blogger Rachel Kane uses her unique sense of humour to critque the outfits.  Check out a couple of the monstrosities she found:

Well turns out that the owners of Forever 21 didn’t quite appreciate her sense of humour and have threatened to sue the blogger.  Thankfully the lawsuit has caught the attention of the media and you can see coverage by Perez Hilton and Time.  Rachel is staying strong and refusing to take down her website.

In recent times we have seen more and more bloggers become the targets of lawsuits.  I think Rachel’s website is fabulous and you can see that she actually likes Forever 21 and is just providing a unique and entertaining spin to some of their available selections. So add WTForever21.com to your RSS reader, donate to her legal aid campaign, and let’s hope Forever 21 drops this lawsuit soon.
