On the Shopping List: theBalm

Good news ladies, Dubai seems to be getting better at stocking lesser known beauty brands here! This week I found that the Landmark Group is the official retailer for theBalm products!

In case you haven’t heard of theBalm before, it is an American beauty line that is recently starting to get a lot of coverage in the press.  I had read a review of their timeBalm concealer and had to get my hands on it. If I had to compare, theBalm is quite similar to Benefit (one of my favorite lines).  They have cutesy packaging and all the products have a creative names.

I emailed the company through their corporate office asking them for their Dubai stockist.  A few days ago I received an answer and headed over to Beauty Bay at the Oasis Center on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Once at the store, I found theBalm products on a very small display that was in pretty bad shape.  Even though the condition of the display put me off, I was excited to see that most of the products were discounted by
50-70%. WIN!

First thing I tested out was the timeBalm concealer.  I swatched myself as the “Light” shade.  I can see why this product has received good reviews.  It reminds me a lot of Boi-ing concealer (by Benefit). It’s a creamy pot concealer which blends in to your skin very naturally.  Alas, luck wasn’t on my side and they were out of my color.

Never to leave a store without a purchase, I checked out the BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer.  Tinted moisturizer is one of my holy grail products.  It instantly brightens up your skin and is a much better alternative to caking on foundation during the unforgivable Dubai summers. My favorite tinted moisturizer is by Laura Mercier, which is unfortunately not available in Dubai. My last tinted moisturizer purchase here was the Bobbi Brown Extra Tinted Moisturizing Balm, which is good but not perfect. theBalm’s Tinted Moisturizer formula seemed a lot like Laura Mercier’s and I couldn’t resist.  The “Light-Medium” shade was also a perfect color match and at the sale price of Dhs. 45, it was a steal (retails at US$ 25 at Sephora).

I’ve also heard great things about their eyeshadow palettes and will be checking out the other Beauty Bay branches in Dubai soon.  They are located in:

  • Oasis Center, Sheikh Zayed Road
  • Centerpoint, Bur Dubai, Burjuman Road
  • Mirdiff City Center
  • Iconic, Deira City Center

They also have branches in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.  Check Beauty Bay’s corporate site for more information.

Let me know if you happen to pick up any products!
